Abstract

The influence of row spacing and population density on the yield of sweet corn was studied at the upland field of the Central Experiment Station, U. P. College of Agriculture. The experiment was conducted from November, 1967 to February 1968 and from February to May, 1968.

Days to silking for all the row spacings 50, 75 and 100 centimeters were not statistically different. Population density did not likewise affect the days to silking but green ear yield increasing plant density. Both the number and weight of marketable green ears were almost doubled at the 60,000-plant population per hectare as compared to the 25,000-plant population per hectare and 20 to 30 per cent more than the 40,000-plant population. The ears were, however, smaller for the 60,000-plant population than the 25,000 plants per hectare.
