Abstract

Seed stored in air-tight tin cans and closed plastic bags retained their high viability throughout the period of study regardless of initial seed moisture. Those stored in paper enveloped and cheese cloth bags, however, gradually decreased in viability up to six months of storage after which they lost viability completely.

Molds and insects such as the rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae Linn.), meal moth (Pyralis farinalis Linn.) and the confused flour beetle (Tribolium spp.) were abundant in seeds stored in paper envelopes and cheese cloth bags.
