Abstract

The level of retention of learning in some concepts of the students were determined in the study. An exam was designed and constructed using the different concepts of exponential function, logarithmic function and laws of logarithms. The finalized exam, which was checked and approved by instructors in Math 17, was administered to thirty (30) Math 17 students three times; the first, lust after the initial lecture of the topics, the second, one week after and the third, three weeks after the initial lecture. Student's level of retention on each concept was determined based from the results of the three examinations. Percentages of samples belonging to each level in each concept were obtained and correlated to several variables using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Two-Sample Test. Descriptive analysis of these values were made. These were used to arrive al recommendations to aid both teachers and students to improve the student's ability to retain learned knowledge.
