Abstract

This paper presents an item-selection study for a trading firm engaged in the importation of surplus vehicle parts. It describes a linear programming approach to finding the best combination of items of XYZ International such that the total profit of these items would be maximized. result of the model indicate the sub-optimality of the existing selection policy of the company and gives useful guidelines for optimizing t selection of vehicle parts. Since the selection to problem of most importers of surplus vehicle par are similar in nature, this model provides a quantitative tool for other members of the industry. Results of the study were presented to the company and currently being implemented.
