Abstract

The study was done in line with the joint project of the Scholastics and Membership Committees of the Society of Applied Mathematics of UPL8 (S(M-UP) which is the search for the Most outstanding SAM-UP member . Ten candidates were nominated by the by members and sere ranked each member according to a set of criteria. The ranking was done with a 1-30 scale to express intensity of preference. Two methods were used to solve the problem, namely: the Kemeny and Snell model and that of Cook and Kress. The two methods differ in the sense that the former involves ranking without intensity of preference while the latter allows the voter to express his degree of preference for each of the candidates. The results obtained from the two methods were compared. It was found out that the optimal rankings obtained from the two methods slightly differ and that the efficiency of each of the two methods depends on the set of data to which they are applied.
