Abstract
This paper is concerned with the use of the three basic assumptions in mortality rates in determining the rate of mortality in Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
The study covers the school year 1978 to 1988, and it has been found out that the students enrolled within these school years experienced .6249, .6504 and .6347 probabilities of leaving the course, .3255, .3034 and .3170 probabilities of overstaying and .0496, .0462 and .0483 probabilities of graduating on time.
A statistical analysis was carried out to test the accuracy of the obtained probabilities. A chi-square test showed that at 5% level of significance, the estimated probabilities accurately approximate the actual experience of the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry students of the University of the Philippines at Los Baños.
