Abstract

Although a large number of the items in the test were seemingly valid, the placement test taken by the UPCA New Freshmen (1970 - 1971) was relatively difficult as shown by the high percent-age of items with small proportion of examinees passing. Prediction of academic success by the tests was improved when the basis of deletion of poor item was the item validity index rather than by the item difficulty index. However, no satisfactory point could be located in both indices to differentiate the poor items from the good ones.
