Abstract
The survival function, s(x), was approximated using cubic splines and the data from the commissioners 1958 standard ordinary and the 1973-78 Philippine Intercompany Mortality tables. An implementation of a program of this method produced 99 approximations for the coefficients y’1,…,y’99 of the cubic spline
The results of the comparison, which is based on the errors and the number of floating point operators, indicated that the approximation is better than previous approximations made for S(x).
