Abstract

Two computational procedures were illustrated in the study on the application of discriminant analysis in social research and taxonomy. The first procedure applies when only two groups are involved and the second one deals with three or more groups. The first procedure was used in analyzing the data in social research and the second procedure was used in taxonomy. The results showed that there exists a significant discrimination between the groups of success and failure (social research) and among the genera Amblyseius, Phytoseius, Pennaseius, and Typhlodromus (taxonomy).

In the evaluation of the classification function for each observation, any observation can be classified as belonging to any of the groups involved although that observation was already presumed and actually belongs to another group.
