Abstract

The study aimed to apply smooth-junction interpolation method in the graduation of the 19b6-1964 Philippine Inter-Company mortality. Six-point formulas with three degrees of exactness, osculatory and a parameter to control the smoothness property were used. These were coded into a computer program using Turbo Pascal Version 5.5 language.

The graduated mortality rates by smooth-junction interpolation method have inherent smoothness since formula was derived. These graduated mortality rates, at the same time, fit with the actual mortality rates and with the graduated mortality rates by piecewise regression method at a ≤ 0.20. These results reveal that the method of smooth-junction interpolation as a tool for graduation is meritorious since it satisfies the two criteria for its acceptability.
