Abstract
The equation of the survival function of the Commissionaire 1958 Standard Ordinary Mortality Table was approximated based on Gompertz's hypothesis The form of the equation an pro-posed by Compertz is n(x) = g(cx-1) , where g and o are unknown parameters. A computer program employing the method of differential correction in approximating the values of the constants g and .3, was developed. When the equation was fitted over the entire range of ages, from 0 to 99, no significant approximation was obtained. However, when the range of ages was divided into five intervals and the approximation was limited to ages 0 to 65, the equation formulated produced less error, and was a good fit to the survival function of the table as indicated by the result of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Goodness-of-Fit Test.
