Abstract
Mathematical programming approach to a sample allocation problem in stratified multivariable survey is presented. The sample allocation problem was formulated following kokan (1963). This was transformed to a linear programming problem using separable programming technique (that is, approximating the convex objective function by piecewise as linear function). the efficiency and effectiveness of the approach is then compared with kokan's solution method using the 1980 Agricultural Census data (NCSO, 1980)
