Direct succinic acid production from non-hydrolyzed biomass using sequential solid-state and slurry fermentation with mixed fungal cultures
Abstract
Copyright © American Institute of Chemical Engineers. All rights reserved. □ Maximum production of 26.62 g/L after 36 h of slurry fermentation □ Maximum volumetric productivity of 0.74 g/L·h □ Productivity increased 5 folds when fresh carbon rich substrate was added □ Much cheaper substrate □ No chemical pretreatment □ Minimal operational and nutrient requirement □ Biological pretreatment (i.e., solid-state fermentation) is relatively slow □ Results of this study can be used for future scale up of this consolidated bioprocessing technology.
