Improved power flow program for unbalanced radial distribution systems including voltage dependent loads

Abstract
This paper presents a three-phase power flow analysis using backward-forward sweep with voltage-dependent load models in an unbalanced radial distribution system. The developed program is tested and compared with Radial Distribution Analysis Package (RDAP) using IEEE 37-bus test system for validation and use in succeeding case studies. The addition of voltage-dependent load models is simulated to analyze its effect on voltage profile and power loss. Results show that the constant impedance load model yields the highest power loss among the three models - constant power, current and impedance. Also, it was found out that at increasing exponential values of the voltage-dependent load models, the total power loss of the system increases.
