Abstract
The study determined the community development (CD) strategies and other factors affecting rice productivity in inland valleys in Quezon Province, Philippines. The survey was administered to 105 respondents: representing the farmers and representatives from other stakeholders. The data were validated using other data gathering techniques such as focus group discussion and key informant interviews. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson Correlation and Stepwise Regression. Findings of the study revealed that the average age of the farmer-respondents is 50 years old, with at least nine years of schooling. The average household size is five, with an estimated household annual income of PhP37,552.35. The farmer-respondents are engaged in farming an average area of 1.15 ha for 26 years. There is a significant low household annual income which falls below the poverty threshold level. Rice yield is low (2,285 kg/ha) due to pests and diseases and other social constraints. The findings showed that the annual income, total farm area, level of production cost, level of constraints, adequacy level of financial support and access to credit or loan facilities, adequacy level of policy and ordinances in relation to rice production, and adequacy level of technical assistance and extension support services significantly influenced rice productivity in inland valleys. Therefore, efforts on the improvement of rice productivity in the inland valleys should be a top priority to achieve rice sufficiency in the province.
