Abstract
Philippines is one of the most exposed countries to tropical typhoons. As one of the government's effort to strengthen resiliency of the country, Phil-LiDAR 1 program was initiated. The program aims to generate flood hazard maps using LiDAR data for the majority of Philippine river systems. One of the project areas covered by UPLB Phil-LiDAR 1 is Sumagui River located in Barangay Sumagui, Bansud, Oriental Mindoro. In this particular site, suitable evacuation areas were deemed necessary by local stakeholders. To address this concern, optimal location for these areas was determined through collection of secondary data, generation of basemaps, group discussions, and data analysis using GIS tools. Based from the processed data, high elevation areas in Sitio Barrio II were identified as the most suitable areas for evacuation. Therefore, construction of evacuation center, if possible, within the identified areas is highly recommended.
