Issue Date

Abstract
Taxonomy of six species of diatoms (four centric and two araphid, pennate forms) is presented. Mostly the species were associated with the brown seaweeds, Sargassum spp., in Batangas (Matabungkay Beach, Lian) and Quezon (Tumagay Beach, Plaridel) Provinces. The centric diatom, Odontella rhombus (Ehr.) Sm. is a new record for the Philippines. Another centric diatom, Coscinodiscus obscurus A.S., was first noted in Manila based from a slide deposited at the British Museum of Natural History (London, England) but no description of this species from the Philippines had been published until now. ©Rushing Water Publishers Ltd. 2011.
