Abstract
The performance of the stock plants of twelve chrysanthemum varieties grown under covered and open conditions were evaluated. Significant differences in the qualities of the cuttings produced by these stock plants were observed. Most of the varieties grown under open conditions showed decrease in cutting qualities and productivity while stock plants grown under covered conditions were more vigorous, healthier, taller and produced more lateral branches than those grown under open conditions. They produced more and better quality cuttings in terms of stem diameter, fresh weight, root number and root length 21 d after rooting. The incidence of disease was higher in stock plants grown under open conditions. From among the varieties tested, Cut Nyak Dien showed exemplary performance in both open and covered growing conditions.
