Abstract
NSIC Rc13 or Malagkit 1 is the first glutinous rice variety released by the National Seed Industry Council (NSIC) since 1985. It has uniformly opaque grains, low amylose content and high consumer acceptability and preference. Its cohesive texture, glossy appearance and good taste are the more notable characteristics. It also yields better than IR65 particularly in the dry season (mean yield = 4.8 tons). The variety matures in 118-120 d and attains a mean plant height of 86-96 cm. It may be susceptible to some insect pests and diseases, but its yield potential can still be maximized through synchronous planting and good cultural management.
