Addressing the human dimension in pollution prevention: Key to sustainable environmental management

Abstract

The environmental management programs that focuses on pollution prevention measures or options adopted by a selected secondary-fiber based paper mill in Philippines are discussed. The pollution prevention techniques are expected to be assessed in terms of employee and community's perception of the company's environment-friendliness and performance in achieving desired objectives. The interrelationship between the paper mills, the community, the local and national government and the way it contribute effectively to better environmental compliance is also discussed. The results show that pollution prevention is more than just identifying and treating individual waste streams.
