First description of the male of Phasmotaenia elongata Zompro & Eusebio (Phasmatodea: Phasmatidae) with notes on its host plants and a revised key to the species of Phasmotaenia Navas
Abstract
The adult male of Phasmotaenia elongata Zompro & Eusebio is described and illustrated for the first time. So far this species is known to be endemic to Northern Luzon (Benguet province), Philippines. The male was observed feeding on Agoho (she-oak) tree, Casuarina equisetifolia L. (Casuarinaceae), which was recorded as its habitat. The mate of P. elongata differs from that of P. lanyuhensis Huang & Brock in having longer antennae, shorter cerci and smaller size. The definition of Phasmotaenia is modified and a key to the known species is herein provided.
