Forms of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) Fruit
Abstract
Two distinct forms of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) were observed. Form # 1 has an oval fruit with a broad stigmatic lobe. It can remain 'seated' on its apex when laid on a horizontal flat surface. The aril has a high ratio of total soluble solids to titratable acidity. Form # 2 has an oblong fruit with a narrow (small) stigmatic lobe and cannot 'sit' on its apex. The aril tastes sour due to the low ratio of total soluble solids to titratable acidity.
