The ovaries of apis dorsata workers and queens from the Philippines
Abstract
Preliminary results show that the relative lengths of oviduct and ovarioles are very similar in A. dorsata and A. mellifera, but that A. dorsata has many more ovarioles: about 130 per ovary in queens, and usually more than about 20 in workers. It is concluded that, unlike A. mellifera, A. dorsata would have a few laying workers (perhaps only one) in a laying-worker colony. © 1971 International Bee Research Association.
