Satisfaction and motivation levels of DHUM and DSS faculty members on the large lecture and small class setups at UPLB

Issue Date

2012

Abstract

This study was conducted to compare the satisfaction and motivation levels of the faculty members of the Department of Humanities (DHUM) and the Department of Social Sciences (DDS) under the Large Lecture Class Policy (LLCP) scheme and the traditional regular-sized class (TRSC) setup at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

A total of 48 randomly selected faculty-respondents from the DHUM and the DSS answered a 144-point Likert-type survey questionnaire, the main instrument of the study. The survey questionnaire was formulated based on Herzberg's Motivation-Hygiene theory and on the "Guidelines for the Adoption of Large Classes at UPLB. "Through a series of t-test analyses on the scores of the 48 faculty-respondents, it was found out that the faculty's satisfaction and motivation levels in the TRSC set up are significantly higher than their satisfaction and motivation levels under the LLCP scheme.

Recommendations are presented to increase faculty satisfaction and motivation for the improvement of UPLB's pedagogical setup.
