Composition and structure of the mangrove forest at the protected zone of Ca Mau Cape National Park, Vietnam

Abstract

The Ca Mau Cape National Park in Vietnam is a coastal ecosystem. Eight sites representing eight mangrove communities were selected along gradients from the seashores to the inlands of the Protected Zone. The two transects of point centered quarter method was used to examine vegetation of each site. Ten mangrove species are present in the park, in which 95% consist of Rhizophora apiculata, Avicennia alba, and A. officinalis. The hierarchical cluster for presence/absence of plant species in the sampling sites based on Bray-Curis similarity coefficient formed four groups of species at 50% similarity. In the Spearman's rho correlations on the abundance of mangrove species, the pairs of Avicennia alba & Bruguiera parviflora, A. alba & Rhizophora apiculata have negative relationships, significant at 0.01 level; A. alba & Ceriops tagal A. officinalis & B. parviflora have quite negative relationships at significant 0.05 level. Two pairs of species B. parviflora & C. tagal, and B. parviflora & R. apiculata have highly significant positive relationships, and three pairs of B. parviflora & Xylocarpus moluccensis, C. tagal & R. apiculata and Excoecaria agallocha & Thespesia populnea had positive relationships at 0.05 significant level.
