Water quality assessment of Meycauayan River, Bulacan, Philippines (Research Note)

Abstract
The Marilao-Meycauayan-Obando River System (MMORS) is cited as one of the 30 most polluted rivers in the world by the Blacksmith Institute in 2008 due to its huge discharge and accumulation for years of industrial and domestic pollutants. As the MMORS traverse the central region of Luzon Island, which has one of the highest population growth rates in the country and feeds directly the Manila Bay, understanding its ecological niche and developing a rehabilitation strategy is very important. A rapid assessment of the water quality conditions in Meycauayan River was carried out in May 2016 to obtain baseline physico-chemical data on the water, soil, air, and biological components during the dry season.
