Abstract
This study aimed to collect, identify, and determine species density of the littoral gastropod species in the coastal shores of Bucas Grande Island, Surigao del Norte; and determine some physical characteristics such as temperature, water transparency, and substratum cover. Findings revealed twenty one(21) species of gastropods belonging to three (3) Orders: Archaeogastropoda, Mesogastropoda and Neogastropoda; nine (9) Superfamilies: Trochacea, Neritacea, Pleurotomariacea, Cerithiacea, Stombacea, Buccinacea, Muricacea, Volutacea,Conacea; and ten (10) Families: Buccinidae, Cerithiidae, Conidae, Haliotidae, Muricidae, Neritidae, Strombidae, Trochidae, Turbinidae, and Vasidae. Among the three study sites, site I had the highest densityvalue of 0.55 with fifteen (15) species; site 2 and 3 had density values of 0.05 with seventeen (17) species and 0.47 with eleven (11) species, respectively. Cerithium aluco was the most abundant species (232) in all three sites, followed by Turbo marmoratus (146) while Strombus mutabilis, Conus ebraeus, Nerita polinata, Nerita exuvia, and Morula anaxeres were the least abundant with only one individual present in each site. Family Certhiidae had the highest percentage value of 24.9% followed by Turbinidae with 23.5%, Conidae 15.0%, Haliotidae and Trochidae 13.8% Neritidae 2.9%, Strombidae 2.5%, Vasidae 2.2%, Buccinidae 1.4%, and Muricidae 0.2% in all the three study stations. Waters all throughout the study sites were clear with sandy-rocky substratum and average water and temperature of 28.23˚ C
