Perception on common property in ecosystem under stress in Mt. Apo, Philippines

Issue Date

1998

Abstract

The Mt. Apo Geothermal facility is riddled with multiple conflicts due to differing perceptions about it as a common property, and conflicting worldviews and value resulting from these differing perceptions. It is proposed that these conflicts may be resolved through effective communication, which, in this case, is the convergence of perceptions. It may be pointed out that theses conflicts are not mutually exclusive. In fact, there is a wide overlap among issues causing the conflicts. Clearly, the target of communication in the case of the Apo Geothermal facility, therefore, is to facilitate mutual understanding or convergence of perceptions to reduce, if not eliminate, areas of conflict among he stakeholders.
