Sclerogibbidae (Hymenoptera): wasps ectoparasitic on webspinners (Embioptera) in the Philippines

Issue Date

10-2016

Abstract

Sclerogibbids or embiid-wasps are obligate ectoparasitoids of webspinners (Embioptera) under the family Sclerogibbidae of Hitherto, only one species, Sclerogibba impress Olmi, has been recorded in the Philippines. Along with recent efforts to document the ecology and diversity of webspinners in the country, another species, Caenosclerogibba sp. was collected from several locations in mainland Luzon. Both species are briefly described and a taxonomic key is provided for the identification of future specimens. The discovery of Caenosclerogibba in the Philippines extends the range of distribution of the genus downward to Southeast Asia.
