Assessment of damage caused by a micro-lepidopteran : a new insect pest of rice in CARAGA Region
Issue Date
10-2014
Abstract
Of the three rice varieties assessed, NSIC RC240 obtained the highest percentage of damaged panicles per hill at 37.63%, followed by Meztizo 19 and PSB RC82 with 25.52% and 13.18%, respectively. The average weight of individual undamaged panicle of NSIC RC240 was 6.61 g while the damaged panicle weighted 4.96 g which resulted in a panicle weight loss of 24.96% similarly, the weight of individual undamaged panicle PSB RC82 was 2.4 g while that of the damaged panicle was 1.46 g resulting in a panicle weight loss of 39.17%. Remarkable reduction in panicle weight can be attributed to the production of unfilled grains resulting in the reduction of filled grains ranging from 17.23 to 31.72%.
