Farm level production of Tetrastichus sp.: a potential parasitoids of Brontispa longissima Gestro
Issue Date

Abstract
A simple protocol on mass production of Tetrastichus sp. was developed by PCA-DRC. The advantages of this technology for the farmers to produce the parasitoid at farm level are the (1) needed materials are readily available and the laboratory is just a simple makeshift shade in the farmer's field. The potential capability of the farmers was developed through hands-on training at PCA-DRC laboratory. The farmers were encouraged to mass-produce the parasitoids and generate income aside from coconut farming. Success in the production of Tetrastichus sp. depends on the attitude of the worker, more importantly his interest, patience, dedication, good vision and preferably young adults. Successful trained farmers were now technically competent in the mass production of Tetrastichus sp. for sustainable pest management of B. longissima and had extra income from sales of the parasitoid. The protocol is illustrated and discussed.
