Issue Date

Abstract
Assessment was conducted to estimate damage and frequency of pest infestations in Barangays Diaat and Malasin in the province of Aurora where farmers continuously plant rice. Fields were selected and pest damage monitored in three rice plantings during the 2012 wet season. In rice fields planted in July, a 27.70 % incidence of sheath blight was observed while incidence of rice tungro disease ranged from 9.13 to 11.86%. Results of monitoring in August rice planting at dough stage of the crop showed that the important pests were bacterial leaf blight, sheath blight and necrotic brown spot. Rice planted in September had lower pest incidence as compared to rice crops planted in July and August. Rice bug was commonly observed especially during the milk stage of rice plants. Rat damage was observed at booting stage of rice planted in the months of July and September. Low to medium level (10-30%) weed cover was recorded.
