Abstract

An integrated Pest Management (IPM) package RMTU developed that aimed to control Mango twig borer (MTB), was assessed under farmer's field condition in six various locations in Central Luzon with low (15%) to severe (more than 20%) twig borer infestation. The effectiveness of a need-based decision guide utilized for proper application and timing of the control strategy employed in Zambales, Tarlac, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Bataan and Pampanga was determined. Implementation of the IPM package in farmer's field resulted in a 16% decrease in MTB infestation a month later. Furthermore, results were associated to 70 to 90% flowering intensity in all trees intervened which is 50% higher than in those in trees without intervention. Incidences of other pests and diseases were minimized by 50% as part of IPM Package performance. Moreover, yield obtained in intervened trees realized a 50 to 367% production increase equated to 9.04 tons per hectare yield.
