Mites associated with mushroom (Pleurotus florida (Mont.) Singer and Volvariella volvacea (Bull. ex. Fr.) Sing.) production

Abstract

Eight species of mites were found associated with Pleurotus florida (Mont.) Singer and Volvariella volvacea (Bull ex Fr.) Sing. production in selected Mushroom houses of the Mushroom Center, Department of Biology, College of Arts and Sciences, Central Luzon State University, Science City of Mu Nueva Ecija and from the Mushroom and Development Center, Pangasinan State University, Sta. Maria, Pangasinan. Among these, seven are predatory and the other one is a detritivore. The predatory species are Rhabdocarpus consanguineus Oudemans and Voights 1904, Lasioseius Philippinus De Leon-Facundo and Corpuz-Raros 2002, Lasioseius sp., Macrocheles sp. 1, Macrocheles sp. 2, Macrocheles sp. 3, and Macrocheles sp. 4. The detritivorous mite is Scheloribates praeincissus preimcisus Berlese 1910. Rhabdocarpus consanguineus and Lasionseius philippinus are reported for the first time on their association with mushroom in the Philippines.
