Through thick and thin: histological examinations of leaf damage on coconut infested by Aspidiotus spp.
Issue Date
10-2014
Abstract
A study on the leaf anatomy of coconut (Aracaceae: Cocos nucifera) with and without infestation of coconut scale insect (CSI), Aspidiotus spp. (HemipteraL Diaspidae), was conducted. Freehand and microtome cross-sections of leaflets with and without CSI infestation were examined. Results revealed that the tissues affected by the feeding of the CSI were mainly vascular bundle and palisade mesophyll.
