Abstract

Ammate 15EC is a new formulation of Indoxacarb recently registered in the Philippines for the control of insect pests in stringbeans, and other vegetable crops. In this study, it was evaluated against Bean podborer (Maruca testulalis) in stringbeans in Muñoz City, Nueva Ecija for two seasons, namely, July to December 2011 (wet season) and April to July 2012 (dry season). Rates tested were Ammate 15EC at 20, 30, and 40gah and the standards used for comparison cyhalothrin 2.5EC at 12.5gah for the dry season test. Control of podborer larvae in the two season trials was highest in treatments of Ammabe 15EC at 30gah and 40gah (not significantly different). Good control was also observed from Ammate 15EC at 20gah and comparable to both standards in both trials. Highest reduction in number of damaged pods was observed in treatments of Ammate 15EC at 30gah and 40gah for both trial seasons. In addition, no significant difference was observed from treatments of Ammate 15EC at 20gah compared to any standards for the wet season or for the dry season trials. For the two season trials, highest marketable yield was observed from treatment of Ammate 15EC at 40gah with 9.6 tons/ha for wet season and 8.01 tons/ha for dry season. Ammate 15EC had similar to higher marketable yield at any rate compared to UTC or both standards for each test season.
