Abstract

Earlier observations in Los Baños, Bay and Calauan, Laguna showed the parasitoid Comperiella sp., a specific parasitoid of A. rigidus within the genes Aspidiotus, causing as high as 80% parasitization. Rapid appraisal was conducted in Tanauan and Balete, Batangas, the center of CSI outbreak, and other municipalities of Batangas, Laguna, Cavite and Quezon in July to December 2014. Comperiella was present in 53 municipalities. The role of the said parasitoid on the recovery of coconut from infestation of A. rigidus was discussed. Using the parasitization of Comperiella as indicator, additional one species of Arecaceae (Nypa fruticans), and one species of Annonaceae (Annona squamosa) and one species of Pandanaceae (Pandanus dubuis) were documented from previously reported six species of Arecaceae (red palm, blue palm, queen's palm, manila palm, palmera and oil palm), one Clusiaceae (mangosteen), one Musaceae (banana), and one Annonaceae (Annona muricata) as alternate hosts of A. rigidus.
