Cone on a stick: a new cone-headed stick insect (Phasmotodea:Diapheromeridae) from Samar Island, Philippines
Issue Date
10-2015
Abstract
The third Philippine species of Loxopsis (Phasmatodea:Diapheromeridae) is described as new to science based on adult females and their eggs. The new species differs from the other Philippine Loxopsis species in having the apex of the sub-genital plate excised at the margins and incurved posteriorly in addition to a very long hind wing i.e. reaching the IX abdominal tergite. Its discovery expands the geographical range of the genus northwards but maintains the distribution of Loxopsis as confined to the Greater Mindanao biogeographic region.
