Abstract
A partial list of the soil-inhabiting mite fauna is provided for the Quezon National Park in Atimonan, and nearby areas in Pagbilao, Quezon Province, within the ierra Madre Mountains. The list is based mainly on ecological samplings in 2007-2008 but also includes published records of species collected since the late 1970s. The fauna of the two sites now amounts to 180 species distributed to the various suborders as follows: 18 Gammasida, 21 Actinedida, 1 Acridida, and 140 )ribatida. Two oribatids are fully described as new to science, namely, Protoribates (Triaunguis) rigidus Corpuz-Raros & Lit (Protoribatidae) and Allozetes philippinensis Corpuz-Raros & Lit (Ceratozetidae). On the other hand, four other oribatis are diagnostically described as new records for the Philippines - Heptacarus plumosus (Hammr) (Lohmanniidae), Stritoppia lanceolata Hammer (Oppiidae), Indoribates (Haplozetes) quadripilus (Berlese), and Protoribates (Triaunguis) seminudum (Hammer) (Protoribatidae).
