Community-based integrated pest management approaches in Barangay Sto. Nińo, Butuan City

Abstract
One of the objectives of the study was to demonstrate some Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches in barangay Sto. Nińo, Butuan City. The Trap Barrier System (TBS) was promoted in the community because of high (40%) rat infestation in some farmers’ fields in the cropping season. The use of resistant varieties like NSIC Rc 122 against white stemborer was already adopted by many farmers in the locality hence whitehead damage was minimal. Monthly meetings were sustained and important topics related to IPM were discussed by researchers from PhilRice and City Agriculture Office of Butuan City improve farmers ’decision-making, ability and retain their interest in IPM. The results further showed that 30& of the 21 farmers respondents use organic foliar sprays against insect pests.
