An improved artificial diet for the eggplant fruit and shoot borer Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee (Lepidoptera:Pyralidae)

Abstract
The growth and development of eggplant fruit and shoot borer (EFSB), Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee, on two basal artificial diets, namely Multiple Insect Diet 9southland Products) and Patil Artificial Diet (Patil 1990), fortified with bee pollen and eggplant calyx powder were studied. Growth and development period of EFSB was slightly longer on Modified Multiple Insect Diet (MMID) compared to those reared on Modified Patil Artificial Diet (MPAD). The results suggest that MMID was more suitable as rearing diet since the success of pupation (82.2%), emergence (75.5%) and survival of adults (75.6) was relatively high and comparable to those reared in eggplant fruit.
