GAP, SPRT, MRLS and trade: Issues related to pesticide residues in mango
Issue Date
10-2012
Abstract
Mango export has been increasingly difficult, with Japan Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) being stringent and other Asian alternate markets also starting to follow. Supervised residue trials for tebuconazole, cypermethrin and lambda cyhalothrin, have been set up in mango growing areas in the Philippines with special attention to Southern Mindanao. Export strategy was planned to meet MRL requirements of the importing countries. Based on preliminary data, Good Agricultural Practices(GAP) modification in relation to widthholding period is recommended. For mango exports to Japan withholding period will be retained for other export destinations.
