A wriggler's plea to death: don't burn me alive

Abstract
Preliminary investigation on the effect of Lansium domesticum Correa seed and peel water extracts to the anal papillae of four-day and six-day old Aedes aegypti was conducted under laboratory conditions. The four treatments prepared were 25% seed and 50% seed, and 25% peel and 50% peel water extracts. Destructive sampling of a cohort test insect at 2-hour interval for 24 hours was done to determine the morphological effect of a treatment compared to control. Various changes in the anal papillae were noted after exposure to treatments: seed extracts - burned-like lumen and distinct curling and darkening of structures coming from the base of papillae; peel extracts- collapsed and shrunken lumen, slight darkening. Apparently physical effect of the seed extract on the anal papillae of wrigglers as a short period of time resulted in high mortality of wrigglers. The potential of lanzones seed extract as a biopesticides against mosquito larvae is discussed.
