Abstract

Bacterial leaf blight (BLB) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. Oryzae was assessed in the farmers’ fields in five barangays in Remedios T. Romualdez, Agusan Del Norte during the November to April 2011 cropping season. Five varieties were planted by the farmers, namely:NSIC Rc128, NSIC Rc122, PSB Rc18, PSB Rc82 and Red Tonner (Farmers’ Variety). Percent BLB infection was highest in NSIC Rc128 with 58.76% suggesting that this variety is susceptible to the disease. Lowest BLB infection was observed on PSB Rc82 with 10.92% which shows moderate resistance to BLB under natural field condition. Other varieties planted by the farmers were moderately susceptible to BLB infection. The crop is prone to BLB infection from flowering to dough stage. Yields of the different varieties were low, ranging from 1.41 to 2.96 t/ha, due to high BLB infection. A significant positive linear correlation (R2=0.652**) was observed between percent BLB infection and grain yield of rice in RTR, Agusan del Norte.
