Issue Date
10-2012
Abstract
Mites found associated with papaya grown in selected areas in Mindanao were collected and identified. The collection consisted of 12 species belonging to 8 genera. Of these, six species were phytophagous [Brevipalpus californicus (Banks), Eutetranychus africanus (Tucker), Tetranychus kanzawai Kishida, T. piercei McGregor, T. urticae Koch, and one unidentified tetranychid species], three mite species were predatory [Neoseilus longispinosus (Evans), Amblyseiust amatavensis Blommers, A. largoensis (Muma)], and three were detritivores [ Archegozetes longisetosus Aoki, Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schranks) ans Zygoribatula sp.]. Tetranychus kanzawai was the most common species infesting papaya while N. longispinosus was the most common predatory mite in most of the areas surveyed.
