Abstract
Monitoring is important to assess the relative levels and seasonal patterns of pest infestations in a locality. The provinces of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat were frequently reported to experience pest infestations. To determine the current pest status and the seasonal patterns of infestation field survey was conducted using the IRRI Sampling Portfolio (by Savary) and the Standard Evaluation System (SES) wherein two to three visits were made at different crop stages. White stemborer infestation was prevalent in North Cotabato in wet season (2010) as evidenced by a high 27 percent damage per hill. Damage was observed at 7-14 days after transplanting of seedlings. In DS 2011, leaf blast disease incidence was observed particularly in the municipality of Kabacan with a mean of 53% while panicle was at an average of 5 percent per hill. The incidence was attributed of frequent rains and the infected seeds planted. High population of green leafhopper was also noted in this province at an average of 15 hoppers per hill. Nevertheless, presence of inoculum was not observed. In Sultan Kudarat, rodent infestation was ubiquitous at vegetative phase. mean damage was at 25% hills.
