Height growth and herbage production of seven MPTS used as hedgerows in an alley cropping system: an on-farm experiment
Issue Date
1-1993
Abstract
The study's main objective was to determine the height growth and herbage production of selected MPTS as hedgerows in an on-farm setting. Seven MPTS were tested, viz., : Acacia mangium A. auriculiformis, A. vellosa, Leucaena leucocephala, L. diversifolia, Flemingia congesta, and Gliricidia sepium. The study was conducted in a farmer's field in Mt. Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. Height growth and herbage production of the MPTS were measured regularly. G. sepium, L. leucocephala and F. congesta had the best over-all performance among the MPTS while A. vellosa and A. auriculiformis had the poorest performance. L. diversifolia and A. mangium did not survive.
