Potential of predatory stink bug Eocanthecona furcellata Wolf on black armyworm Spodoptera exempta Walker and cutworm Spodoptera litura Fabr.

Abstract

Initial trial on the prey consumption of predatory stink bug Eocanthecona furcellata Wolf offered fourth instar larvae of Spodoptera exempta (Walker) and S. litura (Fabricius) was conducted under laboratory conditions. Preliminary data on the average daily larval consumption by the adults predatory bug were 6.75-7 S. exempta and 3.25-3.50 S. litura. Adult male and female E. furcellata consumed almost similar number larval per day. The functional response of the predator is yet to be determined.
