Abstract
This study aims to understand the interrelationship of population, resources and environment and to analyze the social change that happened in Jalajala, Rizal, using the population, resources and environment (PRE) framework. Population and environmental statistics were gathered from public documents of various goverment agencies. Key informants such as long-time residents and public officials were interviwed to supplement the information gathered from secondary sources.
In the last decade, Jalajala experienced a decrease in resources due to changes in land use to accommodate its growing population. The most direct impact of population growth is on the agricultural resources. Evidence of agricultural adaptation is gleaned not from improving crop yield but from improving livestock production. However, there seems to have been abroad based economic and social development that has favorably changed the health conditions of the people.
