Abstract
Two solvents, namely distilled water (AG1) and vitamin-water (AG2) were mixed separately with Preferred Textured Cellulose (PTC) for above ground (AG) deployment and the mixtures evaluated for their ability to attract and induce feeding of the Philippine milk termite, Coptotermes vastator. the responses of termites to the two solvents were measured in terms of the rate of bait consumption during the period of bait deployment in three different sites: 2 sites in Laguna, 1 site in Las Pinas City. The average weights of bait consumed by C. vastator from all sites showed a declining trend over time. The Highest average weight of bait consumed by termites occurred at the first week of bait deployment for both solvents but in varying amounts with AG2 (=190±3.5 g) showing higher degree of feeding activity than AG1 (=85±7.3 g). The attractiveness of AG2 to termites was sustained for as long as there was bait in the box. Such reaction of the termite to the bait was not observed on AG1.
